We're thinking that Chloe is our oldest nanny. We were not able to get much info regarding her when we purchased her as they had adopted her and the only reason for selling was that they were relocating up north and would not be able to take their animals with them. We've had her for around 18 months and she was bred to one of our bucks recently. We didn't see the act so we are unsure of her due date. She will be moved to the nursery pen at the end of this week along with another nanny that is also going to kid in June. Chloe is very sweet but very demanding. She believes she is boss lady in the goat pen and is always willing to get scratches and treats.
Daytona also came from the same farm as Chloe. They're bonded together and the two that can be handled the easiest out of those four. Daytona has such a sweet nature. She loves the kids and enjoys being brushed and loved on anytime. She kids very easily and is an excellent mother. Her milk has a wonderful flavor and we've enjoyed drinking it. She is not that easy to milk though as she has double teats on one side. Overall though, she has been a great backyard milk goat.
Oreo is very standoffish when it comes to human interaction. She prefers to hide behind the other goats unless there are treats being offered. She looks to be pygmy instead of ND and she was a rescue also so we don't have a lot of information regarding her history. Regardless, she, Cookie, Daytona and Chloe will spend the rest of their lives here with us.
Cookie has only wanted us to touch her when she was in labor last year. Sadly, she lost her buckling and cried for weeks for him. My heart broke for her as she continued to look and call out for him. It was such a a sad time around the farm. She has decided that us touching her isn't so bad and who could turn down animal crackers.
We debated back and forth about re breeding her and decided that the early part of the year would ideally be enough time between pregnancies. I'll double check the calendar but I do believe she is due at the end of June.
Josie May is an absolute momma's baby. She would follow Taygan to the end of the earth if given the opportunity. Josie was a bottle baby and we added her to the family when she was 3 weeks old. She's the boss in the nursery pen and I can already see conflict arising between her and Chloe in the future.
Moana is McKenna Ann's baby and she definitely lets everyone know that. She doesn't particularly care for the rest of us lol but will come running when she hears McKenna Ann.
Ivy Belle is an unregistered Nigerian Dwarf that was born here this past spring (2024). Her dam is Daytona and sire is Renegade. She was adorable when she was born and her beauty increases more as she grows. Regardless of no registration on her, we believe she will be a great asset to our milk production and excited to see how she does next year.
Sugar came from a farm not to far from Memphis, TN. I saw her posted on another goat page on Facebook and we just had to have her. She has such a beautiful coloring about her that pictures will never do her justice. Sugar has been quite the charmer in the nursery pen trying to suck in anything she can, including toes if you're wearing flip flops. She also likes to nibble and bite said toes. Boots are a must around her.
Hazel is one of my favorites. She has that stance and knows she is a shining star. She walks with her head held high all the time and can strut her stuff. She is another looker that you just can't take your eyes off of.
Dixie Dairy Nigerians was downsizing a few does and since I was already planning to travel north to get an LGD from their farm, I also chose this gorgeous doe. If all goes well, she'll be bred in the fall of 2024 with our other does.
Dangerously close to my husband flipping out on me is where Renegade came from. As we're on our way to pick up Optimus, the farm posted a picture of Renegade. He was still wet from delivery and was exactly what I had been looking for. Chris, for probably the third time in our marriage said no, absolutely not. Well a little sweet talking, batting my eyes and we now have Renegade. He's a handsome little buckling with lots and lots of moon spots. This little fella right here is the one that I'm rushing to grow up so I can see how he's going to turn out.
